The Accessibility User Research Collective (AURC) is looking for people who use speech recognition software on their computers to take part in a research project being conducted by Microsoft. Speech recognition software allows spoken words to be recognized by the computer, either to translate to written text or to take specific actions (e.g. start an application). Microsoft researchers would like to understand more about the user experience of individuals who do not use a keyboard or mouse but rely on speech recognition software to interact with the computer. The overall goal of this study is to evaluate the accessibility and usability of speech recognition software for people who regularly use this technology.
To be eligible you must:
Limited dexterity (slow and/or painful interaction with keyboard or mouse use)
Use speech recognition software, preferably (though, not required) Windows Speech Recognition or Dragon Naturally Speaking
Be 18 years older
Be English speaking
Be a member of the Accessibility User Research Collective (AURC) by joining here: https://redcap.shepherd.org/surveys/?s=HM7EMW7LJ9
Participants in this study will be asked to answer questions about their user experience. The survey will include a few questions about general technology use, use of speech recognition software, and a few questions about themselves.Participation in this study may take up to 30 minutes to complete. Following completion of answering the questions, participants will receive a $25 stipend for their time and effort.
