The Accessibility User Research Collective (AURC) is looking for people who experience tremors or uncontrollable movement in their hands or arms to take part in a research project being conducted by Microsoft.
Microsoft researchers would like to learn more about the experiences of people who have tremors or uncontrollable movement in their hands or arms as they use a computer. Uncontrollable movement may make it difficult for some to use a computer mouse or trackpad, and therefore may make it challenging to navigate, scroll, or select objects on a screen. Software and hardware technology can be used to assist with or accommodate for tremors or shaking in the hands or arms. The overall goal of this study is to learn about the user experience of people with tremors or uncontrollable movement in their hands or arms so that the developers and engineers may be informed as they work towards improving the usability of assistive technology.
To be eligible you must:
Experience tremors or shaking in the hands or arms that makes it difficult to use the computer with a mouse or trackpad (e.g., Parkinson’s, stroke, spasms due to SCI or other neuromuscular conditions)
Use a computer
Be at least 18 years of age or older
Prefer English for reading and writing
Be a member of the Accessibility User Research Collective (AURC)
Participants in this usability study will be asked to answer a few questions (general demographics, technology use, and assistive technology to assist with/accommodate tremors or shaking). Participation in this usability study may take about 30 minutes to complete. Following completion of the survey, participants will receive a $25 stipend for their time and effort.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please use the automated Enrollment Form button at the bottom of the Study #81 information page.
